Mr. Turgut Ozal

The ex-prime minister & president of Turkey

The leadership traits Mr. Ozal had were unique in their nature and in many respects were  impressive  upon Turkish

society who has longed for something novel to break the lasting monotony. His optimism gave way to the transformation of Turkey from a self-enclosed society to a forward-looking society at a large scale. Thus forming a mile stone in this respect. Mr. Ozal struggled notably with both masses composing nation's humble population and the elites who used to control bureaucracy. The discourse he had and applied effectively enabled him to implement his reforms in a top-down fashion with consents from the conservative masses as well as elites who were more prone to enjoy modernizations. Abroad, again thanks to Ozal’s negotiating skills, Turkey increased its credibility and gained prestige in securing a fine deal with the international financial community. His neo Liberalism, on the other hand, was a key to his achievements both at home and abroad.

In brief; leadership traits he has, correspond well to the implementation of his reforms in a moderate preservative Turkish society, particularly in against Turkish business community, primarily oriented toward the lucrative internal market. Masses who have been long  content with their monotony, had a strong initial reservation for Ozal’s reforms thus making his deal more difficult to realize. Nevertheless, his bold leadership style coupled with personal traits he has, were more than enough to ease up his works considerably. At the outset of our project, what will be seen are correlations between Ozal’s achievements and his personal traits with a particular focus on the tracks he has left on the hearts of Turkish society. Overall, he set a model of leadership for the youth to be lured into the world Diplomacy in particular.
